This bursary has been created by the Port Alberni & District Labour Council in memory of John Squire in recognition of his many years of faithful public service. The award is available to a North Island College student attending the Port Alberni Campus on a full-time or part-time basis. The recipient will be upgrading their academic skills in preparation for further education or to enter the workforce. Preference will be given to a union member, or family member.
Selection is based on academic standing in secondary school and/ or post-secondary studies. Other factors may be taken into consideration such as participation in school activities, community involvement and demonstrated leadership qualities.
