A fellowship, the gift of Alcan Aluminium Limited, is offered to students admitted for post-graduate studies leading to a Master's or Doctoral degree in mathematics or pure or applied sciences. Preference is given to candidates in the fields of chemical and metallurgical engineering. The tenure will be for one year with a stipend of $20,000. During tenure the holder of the fellowship may not simultaneously hold any other position of employment except such teaching duties as may be assigned by or at the discretion of the head of the department. The holder must devote himself primarily to research in a field being defined by the appropriate department, preferably in consultation with Alcan. On request, Alcan is willing to discuss with the department, the possibility of providing joint consultation and joint supervision and possibly support facilities for the thesis study. The award is made on the recommendation of the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The Faculty will take into account not only the student's academic record, but also other qualities which may lead to a successful career in industrial research.
