Inaugurated by Joanne Derks and the Frank Bell family, and supported by Don Punch's family and friends, this award was established to help varsity athletes. As a former basketball player, CIAU and secondary school coach in Northern Ontario, Don's love of the game and concern for athletes is well documented. Value: $120. Recipient: a full-time undergraduate student on the basis of academic standing in the previous year at the University, participation in Interuniversity Athletics and demonstrated financial need. Preference is given to members of the men's and women's basketball teams. The award may be divided between two deserving students in the same year. Application for Athletic Awards required.
